Adopted dog hates all cats. Was told he is fine with cats.

Hi Bernice. We adopted a 4 year old GSD from a welfare org, and we were told that he is fine with cats. The truth is he isn't. He lunges at any cat and you cannot distract him with anything, even food. He has had some form of training by whom ever had him before. Please help. He really is a special boy and would like to keep him.

Hi. GSD are very much prey driven dogs and become obsessed with cats. It can take a long time to get them relaxed with them. I do suggest you give me a shout as it is very difficult to assess whether he is being aggressive or just overly obsessed by the cats and I definately suggest you get someone in to help you with the problem.
