Dude - Boerbul/ Lab Biting Aggressive!
Hi Bernice, we recently moved to a farm based lodge with many other houses on one property. My Boerbul/ Lab has a problem with being impulsive, dominating and aggressive. Since we have been at our new home he has bitten a garden boy who was too close to our home and Saturday went ballistic on the poor guy who needed to fix our leaking roof. He was fine one minute and leaped at him the next. We have one definite factor, he is only aggressive towards black people when we are around. We do not encourage this behavior but it has gotten progressively worse over the last year. We cannot stop at a garage to refuel without him basically leaping at the poor petrol pump guy. I though he was going to leap right through solid glass yesterday. I know I am the problem to start, I do not have the pack leadership with him, he drags me on the leash literally. I have already been told by my landlord if his behavior doesn't change asap we are gonna have to move. I have moved 4 times in the last year, not because of him but I can't relocate again. Dude's mother was a Boerbul and was eventually tied up by the owners due to her aggressive behavior (she stayed on the same property where we are now. So the landlord is already seeing signs of problems in the future - I have received 2 warnings already) Also when we arrive home in the afternoon, he charges along side the car, which then increases energy levels with the others, causing him to chase at them wildly trying to keep them away from the car, this results in aggression between my landlords 3 dogs too.. so all in all Dude is creating quite a vicious stir. I have a dog whistle which I find breaks his pattern for a few seconds at a time, but not enough to stop his behavior completely! I want to help Dude , I want to take control as the pack leader. I need help urgently. Please could you advise? Yours Sincerely Shelley
